Well I would like your advice on some tires. I am looking at using a second set of AT's on my stock rims for driving around town and some light wheeling and using the MT's for the good stuff. I can get some deals on each tire. Here are the two I am thinking about: BFG A/T's or Mickey Thompson Baja ATZ's. I have used the BFG's before and liked them, anybody know about the ATZ's? Or thoughts on each. Thanks............................... GOOD GWAD THIS SITE'S IS GREAT!

My neighbor has some BAJA ATZ's on his TJ for a street tire and some CLAW's for off road. I wanted some for my jeep after the Goodyear's gave out ( which did'nt take long ! ) because I like the look and the ride of those tires. He has had that set on his jeep for a year or so and they are holding up really well. But like you said I got a deal on the BF'S so they are on my jeep now and I love them.

I like my BFGs. They wear well and they hold up well off road. I bent a rim on a rock last Spring. The sidewall held up fine.

I love my bfg ats and they're my only set of tires. if it's just street and mild wheeling, go 33x10.50 for the stock wheels. Flares will provide plenty coverage and the tires sit nice on the OEM wheels.

Biggest lesson I have learned is to never get directional tires ever again. I am really looking forward to the day I can go back to a nice set of AT radials.

I have the BFG/AT and they are great tires. I run them mostly in the winter months. Then I have a set og Goodyear MT/R's for wheelin. Both sets work well for how I use them. The AT's are much quieter on the road and work well in snow.

Another vote for the BFG AT's - they are great in just about any condition. They are good on wet/snowy streets (ice isn't a strong point, but it isn't bad). They handle the mud well for a non-mud tire (any tire will get clogged up, these clean out ~OK~).
They wear well and look aggressive for a street tire. I would have to say they are the best bang for your buck. I don't want to deal with swapping tires to wheel and I really don't have to - the AT's handle mild to moderate wheeling without any problems.

O.K. I am going to go with the BFG's. How are the 33/10.50/15's, as in weight ,gas mileage, speedometer, etc? I do want to use my 32's for the good stuff, but will it affect the program on the Jeep by swapping tires? Just stay with the 32's BFG's ??

I am running MT Baja MTZ in the 33X12.5X15 variety and my speedometer is off by 10%. I ordered the speedo gear from Quadratech, and it was backordered, and backordered and backordered again. By this time it was 3 months and I have decided not to worry about having an accurate speedometer. Having a GPS unit I have a pretty good idea of my speed as it is 10 % off. When the speedometer reads 60- I am going 66. at 50 on the dial- 55 on the road. 30 makes it 33. Easy to do the mental math. Not sure if I will ever reorder the speedo gear. As to any of the other questions dont have a clue.
We drive the jeep most of the places we go, especially if we take our dog (large lab). It drives the wife crazy that the speedometer if off. She constant gripes about me going so slow. Since the lift, bigger tires, armor, etc. etc. I have slowed down too. This adds to the slower speeds.

Keeping the same size tires will eliminated the speedo issue - and remember, its not just the speedometer that is off, so is the odometer. As for getting the new gear, you can go to the dealership and order one - they usually can get one in about a week and it is actually cheaper than Quadratec by a couple bucks. From my personal experience, I recommend you do the research and know which gear you need (part # if possible) since most parts counter "techs" will take a while to figure out what you need.

Yeah, they have many charts out there so you can find the correct gear. Takes like 5 min. to change.
BUT, when I went to my dealer and said I needed a 04 Wrangler 231 T Case 31 tooth gear, he said they can now only get your vin, and give you only the stock one. Now my parts dpt. sucks so i dont know.
It was easier to order from q-tec in the end.. for me.
It souldn't be off that much for 32's and 33's. now when I went from 30's to 35's, it was off a lot. Like 5 miles per hr or so.
Happy trails...

when I went from 30s to 33s it was a 10% change. The math is pretty easy if it's only 10% different. Speedo says 25 your doing 27.5. Speedo says 45, your doing 49. Speedo say 65 and you running @ 71.5.
I've never been pulled over for staying with the flow of traffic. Only exception to that rule is driving in Chicago. Speed limit on the freeways there is 55 or 65. I'm being passed like crazy donig 75. Ask Moneypit, he'll tell you about the traffic... LOL

Now my parts dpt. sucks so i dont know. There aren't any other dealerships around? My dealership took forever to find the part number, but didn't ask any questions other what year TJ I had. They will sell anything to anyone who's paying. Then again I have at least 4 Jeep dealerships within a 30 minute drive, so if one doesn't want my business, another will.

Just one dealership in the area, about 100,000 people in this town.. Closest one other than my local one is about an Hr. away. I hear they are a lot better than mine. I know A LOT more about Jeeps than the service, parts and sales did.. sad knowing thats what they do for a living.
