jeep wouldn't start when i got off work so popped the hood and seen all this corrosion around the positve post on the battery. tried to clean it off and the half the clamp had totally disintigated away. Called dealership and they said it was covered by warrenty but when i got to the dealership they said that it might not be covered due to the fact that i take my jeep to jiffy lube for routine work. long story short they decided to accept it under warrenty and i don't have to pay anything.
has any one else had this problem either with the battery or dealership?

No Battery cable problem. I'm more interested in the Jiffy Lube part of the story. How does were you get your oil changed fit into battery cable warrenty work?

If the dealer gievs you that crap just look online for the Moss Jorgenson (?) warranty act. It basically says that if you have done nothing to modify from factory tied with the work that is being done, they have to cover it.
My recommendation: FIND A NEW DEALER.

what she was basically saying is that if i had gotten my routine maintance done at a dealership that they would have caught the problem with the battery. i think she was trying to give me crap but if they wouldn't of covered it then i would of gotten a little pissed off, but it was covered. i would take it to a dealership if they didn't take hours just to do a oil change.

i would take it to a dealership if they didn't take hours just to do a oil change. Hours? You're going to the wrong dealer... all I can say is that the dealer I use has a 20 min oil change center attached to it. And for those of you that will get on our case about not changing our own fluids... I have one thing to say about that: It's cheaper for me to take it to a speedy lube shop than do it myself. It usually takes me 5 or 6 beers to do an oil change.

5-6 Beers!? In 30 minutes!? I started doing my own oil changes and will never go back to Jiffy Lube. Maybe it's a control thing or maybe it's because it is one those things that just makes me feel like a man (however insignificantly manly that is) but I just like changing my oil now. Now I do hate the brain anurism I get from taking off the oil filter but still a definite boost to my testerone level when it's all done. Makes me wonder how a dealer would treat any warranty work I ask for though.

5-6 Beers!? In 30 minutes!? Yeah, pretty much so....it goes something like this: Get the Jeep up on stands. That whole jacking Jeep up is exhausting, so I have a beer. Crawl under and pull the drain plug...curse because I forgot the drain pan, plug it up, get the drain pan and now drain the oil... I have a beer while looking for the kitty litter. Move the full drain pan and put down kitty litter. I have another beer while trying to find something to put the waste oil in. Pull off the filter, curse that i forgot to do that while the drain pan was under the Jeep. I spread some more kitty litter down and have another beer. Open the new oil and pour the first quart in. Curse that I forgot to put the new filter on. I put more kitty litter down and have a beer mumbling something about "wasting good oil". Then I install the new oil filter. I pour the remaining oil in. While the hood's open, I check the K&N, realize that it's in need of a cleaning...then I look for the K&N cleaning kit while having a beer. Fire the Jeep up and check for leaks....oh yeah, I'm a quart low. I'd better go to the store. The Jeep is a little higher to climb into then I remember that I need to take the Jeep off the jackstands to head off to the auto parts store. On second thought, if I leave at this point, I may get a DWI. F@#$ it! I have another beer because I can get the oil @ the gas station tomorrow. It's a very easy thing to change your oil and have a few beers...in Wisconsin.

You have to jack up the jeep? Just roll under it, with 32's and a 2" BB no trouble for me. Or is it just me?

I dont do the 6-pack but a lot of the same things happen to me. I dont jack it up, i grovel on my belly underneath, pour oil in with out replacing the drain plug. I have removed the oil filter and replaced it and then had to take it back off as the rubber seal on the old filter had stuck to the polished metal it is supposed to seal too. I am getting better as I do more and more of the changes. I chickened out and had my normal mechanic change my fluid in my diffs. But I will do them the next time.

I'm not sure if I should tell you this...first time i did the diffs I had a friend not tell me about the physics of gear lube. (it was a big laugh for him) I'll let you in on the secret... don't pull the whole cover off. remove all but the top bolt (only loosen the top bolt) and let the gear oil drip out the bottom. in my lousy experience, if you pull off all of the bolts, the oil seems to shoot straight out at you. More kitty litter and another beer. Also, remember to scrape all that crappy RTV off. maybe think about replacing it with a gasket.

well i move around every three to six months for work, so it's easier to go to a quick lube joint. well i still don't have my jeep back. they said it could be another week due to the part being on national back order. dam it's only a positive cable and maybe new battery. i have to drive this rental that they are paying for ...a dodge caravan like i'm some soccer mom. i feel like i've been nutered.
