Would a regular 2006 Jeep skid plate fit on an LJ? A guy who had a bunch of work done to include a long arm lift has it left over from when the dealer put it on. Wondering if the extended wheel base would move all the mounting points?

What skid?
Pretty much any skid from a SWB TJ will fit a LWB TJ (LJ).

It should fit. There are do differances in the front of the Jeeps. All those parts are interchangable. What kind of Skid are you talking about. If it's a Mopar or Warn engine oil skid I would think twice about it. They are only 1/8" thick. Most people find out the hard way thats not enough. Hate to give you a false sense of security.

I am not exactly sure which one it is. He got the plate as a part of a package deal when he bought the Jeep. The dealer called it the off road package but that may have been something they did on their own unless Jeep has one as an upgrade. It is the large plate that protects the engine and the oil pan as I understand it. He couldn't describe it very well and I am doing even worse.

Its the oil-pan skid -what brand is the real question. I have the Warn - and it isn't as bad as some people make it out to be. If you doing major rock crawling, yeah you could do better. If you are running in to the occasional rock in the mud, it will do just fine (I know from experience). Mine has plenty of trail scars that would have been on the oil pan if the skid wasn't there. It has a slight bow in it, which probably wouldn't happen if it was thicker. Although the skid itself is only 1/8" - the cross member is 3/8" and quite sturdy. It does it's job and is 10 times better than nothing. There are better skids out there though. So if its free and you aren't doing major rock crawling, you will get your money's worth

Before I lifted mine I put on a skid plate first, as a matter of fact that was the first mod I did. Even on all the dirt bikes I've owned that was always the first thng I did. If you can get for free get it, you'll probly thank yourself later. Free is always a good deal.
