Folks, I'm starting to feel like I'm talking to myself. I hope that ya'll will join in with this one.
What's yourt favorite tire for the Jeep? I favor the Michelins on our Grand Cherokee, but the Goodyears on the unlimited have been disappointing.
I know people that swear by the BFG A/Ts, some that favor other types of Goodyears.. So what is your favorite and why?
I'm looking forward to hearing from you! J

I've run 33" BFG Mud Terrains on my Scrambler for 10 years, and I love them. I keep thinking about 31" MTs for the Unlimited, but most of my driving is the commute to work, so I'll probably go with the AT instead.

I'm running the TrXus STS's here in the desert. They have worked out very well, and I've beat them like a baby harp seal. They are in their element in the sand, but I've been amazed at how well they hold their own in the wet stuff too. I've been even more amazed that we've had wet stuff this year.
Also, they look kind of wicked too.

Tim,
Saw your tires in another post, they do look beastly. I was just down in Chandler a few weeks ago and went to Desert Rat Off Road in Tempe looking at tires. They seemed a little expensive to me so I'm going to shop for awhile. I want something more aggressive, but have to remember that most of my driving is on pavement and some snow here in Idaho. Ridge

I'm seriously considering Firestone's new MT Destination

I'm seriously considering Firestone's new MT Destination Firestone was in my office last week, and I saw the Destination for the first time. I liked it, so I went into TireRack.com and I compared it to a few other tires I was considering. The Firestone rated better in almost every catagory. I was impressed. I've never thought about Firestones before, but that tire just went way up on my list.

I like the BFG MT's They have a long lifespan if rotated regularly. I've got the 31" MT's and I had them siped. Makes them a decent tire for the commute to and from work (rain/snow/ice etc...) And they have always been a good choice off road. When they wear out I'll replace them with the exact same tire...just a bit bigger...I'll be ready for 33's by then.
I did read a nice article on the Firestone MT's they sound like a nice tire. Too bad there is such a stigma on the Firestone brand after all the issues with the factory tires they'd supplied for Ford trucks and SUV's. After all that...I won't touch them.

ref: Firestone stigma
I don't think any major company like that - after that issue- would allow anything even romotely similar to continue, it's their bread & butter..
I like what I've read about them too-
but I also like the Kumho MT's

Can you guys who are running MT-style tires comment on the noise? A year or two from now, when I've driven STS's to a nub, I'll be considering MT's. But with 80+ miles each day of highway commuting, I don't want to go deaf.

Here's what I've ran and think about them
Wrangler RT/S great AT tire, long life but not offered in large sizes. (on wife's durango)
SSR's radial (33's)- nice, works great except hard to keep balanced.
MTR's great all around when I had 33's but wasn't too crazy about the 31's that came stock on the rubi.
Cooper ST (35's)- tread seemed rather soft and these were the loudest tires I've ran.
BFG's MT (35's)- just put these on a few days ago, I'll have to wait for an opinion.
Might not be what you're looking for, but hope it helps

IS there any reason that more people do not run 32s? I feel that the LJ needs bigger than a 31 but a 33 is a little hard to convince for a DD. Just a thought.
Firestone--- I would say after the issue they are probably the safer of the tires for QA/QC out there.
I like the look of the BFG A/Ts and they get good reviews. With my driving scheme right now I do not think an MT tire would be warrented. Work to much play to little.....

I am buying an 06 rubicon unlimited. How much body lift would be the minimum required to put on 32" tires? Also how much for 33" tires?
I do not want to lift the body any more than necessary.
Thanks for any input.

You can fit 32x10.5's with a two inch lift, but it is a tight squeeze. Not sure what you would need for 33's, but for 33's you will surely need aftermarket wheels.
